The project started as a way to show the congregation how the head minister writes her sermons. It morphed into the actual sermon for our annual “kickoff” Sunday, traditionally a high day for our church when we begin the new church year. In 2020 of course, there was no in-person service so we wanted to do something special and unexpected for the sermon. As the church’s organist/choir director, and now one-man band video guy, there were many fun challenges to producing this video. The head pastor is a dedicated runner and athlete and I wanted to show her strength as she ran and exercised and processed thoughts for the sermon. I used a Sony A6600 for the entirety of this video. The running shots were done by riding my bicycle with one hand and operating the camera on a gimbal with the other. This was shot and edited in a single week, alongside production for rest of the service. It came together and many in the congregation expressed that they were blessed.

This is brilliant. What a great little film. The camera work and editing are exquisite. The film does exactly what you set out to do…and more. Well done.

Bill, thank you so much for your comment. I’m really touched that you viewed this film and found it meaningful. It’s been such a strange year for all of us, and something about our pastor’s search for what to tell the congregation was moving. I’m glad you connected with that. Blessings to you.
