Our church in Every Nation NYC is compromised of numerous different sites in Brooklyn, Bronx, Hamptons, New Jersey, and Manhattan which is the main one, and the one I’m with. One of our leaders in Manhattan collaborated with our former worship leader who is now in Taipei, Taiwan. Together, they came up with the idea for a special worship video for Easter where all the worship leaders from the different sites sing together for a mix.

Producing the video is where I came in. I used a Zhiyun Weebill-S gimbal, with a Panasonic Lumix GH5 and a Sigma 18-35mm w/ f/1.8 lens + Viltrox Speedbooster attached. This combination of heavy body and lens was basically most of the challenge of recording. In terms of special recordings, most people know that the GH5 has terrible autofocus, and on top of that, the Sigma and lens adapter basically meant that I had to use manual focus for the entire project, focus pulling as I was side-walking around the singers. What was challenging also was the unpredictable lighting and wind outdoors, especially on a sunny day. We compromised with having half of the singers face lit up, while the other half in shadows for days where the sun was full blown. It was also challenging to get similar quality video from our remote sites in Hamptons and Taipei which didn’t have access to someone like me, so I had to give very specific and detailed instructions for recording and lip-syncing.
