2022 Categories
Best Animation
Animation is the art of giving movement and motion to inanimate objects in film. Thanks to today’s free tools, like Blender and others, anybody can try their hand at—and practice—creating animated content.
Best Audio
From mixing to sound effects (SFX) to musical score or soundtrack, voiceover, and dialogue, audio enhances the atmosphere and mood of a film by fleshing out its aural world. Sound design in post-production provides indispensable contextual information.
Best Cinematography
A project’s director of photography (DP) blends cinematic art and science to create the most visually arresting films and videos. Lighting, framing, composition, angles, color, and depth-of-field are just a few of cinematography’s key elements.
Best Direction
A director brings all the creative elements of a film or video to life. From choosing scripts, revising them, working with actors in each given scene, and collaborating with editors in post-production, a director’s work puts a unique visual stamp on each film project.
Best Editing
A visual editor’s keen understanding of emotion will move a story forward, and their editing choices will make or break a scene. An excellent eye is important, as well as a natural talent for crafting a story’s timing and generating its pace.
Best Lighting
Lighting separates the men from the boys in any film project. But, with know-how and understanding of styles like flat, butterfly, loop, Rembrandt, and so many more, it’s possible to achieve excellent lighting for film and video on even a shoestring budget.
Best Script
Some of the best scenes ever written for film convey complex thoughts and emotions purely visually—with next-to-no dialogue. The right script will bring the most powerful film or video visions and stories to life.
Best Visual Effects (VFX)
VFX is used to create imagery for a film that can’t be captured in a live-action shoot. Once created through CGI or software, VFX integrates with actual footage to bring other worldly environments, or scenes too dangerous or impossible to shoot, to life.
Best Overall Video
A panel of specially appointed Capture judges will subjectively choose the Best Overall submissions (over 500 attendance and under 500 attendance) using the full range of categories. While the deciding factor may be a very subjective one, these films and videos will shine on all fronts and communicate emotion like no others.
Viewer’s Choice Award
Capture attendees will vote for their one favorite film or video among all the Church Filmcraft Festival submissions. This award is the church filmmaker’s chance to be recognized by others who are working to create enduring content that brings people to Christ.
Church Filmcraft Festival Submission Guidelines
So you want to enter the Church Filmcraft Festival? Here are some helpful guidelines for making sure the process goes off without a hitch.
Eligibility and Rules
- A link to the submission form will be emailed upon registration to Capture Summit.
- The Church Filmcraft Festival entries must be produced by an in-house church video production team.
- Submission videos must be publicly viewable.
- Each church is limited to a total of three submissions.
- Each submission is eligible for up to three categories. Categories must be selected at the time of submission. All submissions are automatically considered for the Best Overall categories.
