We were having a Volunteer Appreciation event and wanted to present this video for our many volunteers to let them know how a church would look without their help. We used the Canon XF105 with a Sennheiser shotgun mic going directly into the camera. It was mostly a run-and-gun production, so we utilized a shoulder rig for our handheld shots. All the actors are CCO staff, CCO members and their families. Our main challenge was scheduling. We filmed after services to get our crowd shot and during services in the parking lot and Children’s classrooms. Some filming was during the week of me driving to the satellite churches. One difficult shot and one that bugs me to this day, is when the family is greeted by Alicia at the main entrance. I had to violate the 180 degree rule because the glass door was in my way and blocked my reverse shot of the family. For the video overflow room scene, we did a shot on sticks so we could superimpose Lance’s video clip of him teaching as if it was being projected live. That was our only SFX shot. Everyone enjoyed the video and it helped them see how essential they are to ministry. We hope you enjoy it as well.
