Jireh | First Baptist Dallas

Our video team in partnership with the Music & Worship team produces music videos for social media on a monthly basis. For this shoot, we tried something new; a one camera shoot utilizing a Steadicam for constant floating camera movement. Filmed with a Sony FX9, vintage Canon K35 lenses and Aputure lighting.

Bounce/Back to School Bumper

This project was created as a bumper/promotional video for our big back-to-school series called “Bounce”. We actually came up with the whole concept for this video during last year’s Capture Summit 2022! We still have the notepad where I sketched out the idea.
The tagline for the series was “returning joy to your life”, so we built a fake cyc wall studio out of backdrop paper and a DIY light grid, ordered 500 cheap bouncy balls, and setup/shot this in 2 days. It was such a special part of the whole series, and it’s even better that the idea came about while listening to others share their ideas at the Capture Summit!

We used Panasonic a GH5S, GVM and ring lights, and a whole lot of storyboarding

“The Way” Easter Film

This project was the opener video for our 2023 Easter services. Our creative director, Ben King, came up with the beautiful concept of visualizing the construction of a doorway as a metaphor for Christ’s sacrifice and love for us. The VoiceOver was inspired by a poem from Saint Augustine and voiced by our incredible missions pastor. Although we storyboarded the entire film, some of our favorite shots came from on-the-spot thinking, and we added them in the final edit. It was a joy to create this piece, and we hope it provides a new and artistic perspective on the significance of Easter.

This was shot with a Canon C200 with an Easyrig, tripod, and slider. Voiceover was recorded on a ShureSM7B

Flourish Opener Video

This project was the opener video for our annual Girls Night event. The theme was “Flourish”, so we wanted to create an opener that celebrated all of the women in our church and encouraged them to flourish in any season. We had a blast gathering women from all different walks of life in our church, filming them in front of a blank white backdrop, and then putting this entire piece together. After filming with the ladies, we gathered an array of flowers and plants, filmed them in front of the same backdrop, then spent several long days editing it all together in AfterEffects. It was a pretty big technical challenge to blend the silhouettes, flowers, and other visual effects together, but it was worth it.

This was filmed with a Panasonic GH5S, some simple GVM lights, and a whole lot of post-production.

Searching for Something | Short Film

We created this short film for our 2023 Easter services to set up the topic of how we all search for purpose, happiness, pleasure, etc. in life and ultimately our search ends with Jesus and we should find tremendous fulfillment in him dying for our sins and raising back to life!

This short film was shot on the Sony FX6 primarily using a vintage Russian lens called the Helios 44-2. I chose to rely a lot on natural light to achieve the mood that we were looking for. I would say the biggest challenge we encountered was the final drone shot of the main character walking into the church. Securing extras on a rainy Monday to film at a different church far away from where our church is located was tough but we pulled it off!

Spring Baptism 2023 – Peyton’s story

It was a spring 2023 baptism story. Peyton telling her story of how she struggled through anxiety and depression in her middle school and high school years and how God came about and made her feel loved. Through her counselor she found Liquid and was able to accept Jesus in her heart and decided to make it public and get baptized 🙂 Used 2x Canon R5’s (50mm, 100mm), Aputure 300D as key, Aputure P22C as color backdrop, Aputure 60x as rim, boom mic for audio. Custom white balanced to lock in the warmth of each camera, Neutral with -3 contrast and -1 Saturation to add it in post. The challenge, perhaps in-camera it seemed like the Rembrandt lighting was a bit aggressive but in post production it was easy to correct by raising the shadows and midtones.

Bergen PAC

I used a Sony A7III with a 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 lens shooting at 120 frames. The big moment of this video was showing our church that we were having our women’s conference at a large venue, so I captured footage of four women from our church getting coffee in the area local to that venue. I also grabbed footage from YouTube videos that showed the interior of the venue along with footage of our previous women’s conferences held at our venue.

I can’t say I really encountered any challenges with this project. The toughest part was coordinating the women to all meet at the area, but everything else was smooth. Even the editing process for this was as easy as it’s ever been for me. Once I found the right track, I felt like this video edited itself. I also found the right sound bites from my senior pastor super quickly. This project just had God’s grace written into it.

391 Days

This was a recap/docu about FBC’s rebuild after a major building fire in 2020. This fire along with the pandemic gave us many challenges to overcome as a church.
